Enter the fairytale world of Russian photographer Katerina Plotnikova. In a realm where monsters come to life, beautiful maidens find comfort in their animal brethren, and the rules of gravity dissipate, Plotnikova brings the dream scenes to life, inviting the viewer to revel in the enchanting beauty and serenity.

Describing her work as “another tale about wonderland,” Plotnikova undermines the ethereal beauty and ingenuity her creative spirit brings to the classic tales. Utilizing natural light, natural settings, and real animals, her work evokes the natural beauty that the wild possesses.

The juxtaposition of fair waif-like princesses and exotic natural predators initially plays to our innate fear of the wild beasts; bringing up anxiety, hesitation, fear. But the quiet calm of the natural setting in which these two opposites unite, and the relaxed peace with which the two embrace create the true beauty to the photos.

With the help of experienced animal trainers, the genuine connection between human and animal is allowed to unfold on camera as the subjects play and interact. On Plotnikova’s website, she has uploaded behind-the-scenes footage showing how the animals are posed by their trainers, and adorable moments of the animals sneaking treats.
